2.3.2015-3.2015 Studio 2.1 and 2.2 class work

Studio 2.1 and 2.2 classwork
Understand, define,ideate, making

In order to further define and understand a diverse way that i can define my sculptures rather than just literal imagery in order to bring emotive and more subtle imagery to my work.
This then lead me to be able to further expand my visual matrix and define shapes, qualities of line, and emotive imagery that would work along side my literal imagery of my sculptures and help to make richer compositions later in the project.
We then worked on creating thumbnail compositions which focus on being based on fundemental design principles in order to make strong compositions.

Overnight I worked on completing and sourcing both my visual and written matrix: Below is my visual matrix

Written matrix: more info may be added throughout the project

Studio 2.2 Class work:

In the second class we worked on developing our thumbnails into compositions that include the imagery we have gathered, i did this by collage on the computer.

These compositions helped me to find good initial ideas for what i want to achieve for my bucket fountain imagery/compositions which will lead me to further develop these initial ideas into new compositions and to start to experiment with the other sculptures through out the week.

28.2.2015- 1.3.2015 Sourcing photographic imagery and brainstorming further imagery ideas

Sourcing photographic imagery and brainstorming further imagery ideas
Understand, Ideate

From narrowing down the possible sculptures in wellington i could use I went and took pictures of the 5 i had chosen. Which are Water: Bucket Fountain and Water wand, Wind: Wind socks/Akau Tangi, Earth: Green islands, and Fire: Tripod.
This helped me to get further inspiration for the sculptures from being able to experience them in person as well as narrowing down my list further.
Due to not being able to photograph the water wand in action and the bucket fountain being more visually diverse and inspiring i have decided to use the bucket fountain for my water category.
Then with wind already being decided i had to choose between the green islands and the tripod. Which i have decided to choose the green islands due to their more natural quality and believe that the tripod would be better suited to the extra page where i would like to discuss the art that has emerged because of the film industry/weta workshop which is based in wellington, thus i could include other sculptures and art that weta has produced and discuss how wellingtons art comes from many different aspects.
Then after i took the photos i did some brainstorms of my main 3 sculptures where i thought about line quality, shapes, symbols and colour schemes, which will also help to lead into further developing these imagery ideas.

Some photos taken and brainstorms bellow:
